Star Trek: Enterprise: Malcom Reed. Malcom is well aware that it is not acceptable to be gay. His father was certainly very clear on that point. But if he's forced, it's not gay, is it?
Sherlock (BBC): John Watson. John was very young the first time he used 'queer' as an insult - and when his sister explained exactly what it meant, he never used it again. So when Anderson uses it on Sherlock, John can't help but respond.
MotoGP RPF: Mike Leitner, Dani Pedrosa. Mike has worked with Dani for years, and admires Dani greatly, so it's not terribly strange that they have such a close relationship; they're together all the time, they barely even need words to communicate anymore. Mike never needs to think about there being anything more than business between them - after all, there's no gay in racing. Until something happens that makes him have to think about it.
The Muppets (2012): Walter/Scooter. So it's no big deal for a frog to date a pig, but when two male muppets want to have a realtionship, everyone has a problem with it?
Red Dwarf: Kristine Kochanski. The alternate dimension that VII-Kris came from doesn't do sexuality in the same way ours does. Straight sex is only for the purpose of bearing children, and now that there is artificial insemination, that type of sex is seen as a bit crass. Same-sex relationships are so much cleaner, and so much better for the children!
Event Horizon: Dr. Willaim Wier. Thank goodness rationality ended up prevailing in the 2020s, with the tide of public opinion turning to the extent that homosexuality was once again rendered socially unacceptable in the '30s and '40s. And if someone was unable to keep from having sex with men, and if his wife commited suicide in shame - well, that's just his own moral failing, isn't it.
