This is the prompting post!
Prompts can be from any fandom. Please read the rules post first.
When leaving prompts, please leave them in the following form: Fandom, characters, prompt.
Crossovers should be left in the following form: Crossover, fandom a/fandom b, characters, prompt. (please put fandoms in alphabetical order)
RPF prompts should be left in the following form: RPF, fandom(s), characters, prompt.
You can leave as many prompts per comment as you like and as many prompts in one comment as you like! You do not have to plan to claim prompts in order to post prompts and posting prompts does not mean you have to participate in the claiming round. If you wish to recycle prompts from previous rounds of queer_fest or lgbtfest, you are welcome to do so.
Any questions/concerns about prompts should go to the rules post or via pm to the mod account. The rules post has been set to screen all comments to preserve privacy. If it's just a general question and not a problem with a prompt, it will be unscreened. Please contact us if you have a problem.
Things to keep in mind:
- Comics fandoms: When prompts are compiled for claiming, all Marvel comics will be grouped together by universe - i.e., Marvel 616 or Marvel Ultimates, including the X-Men. The same is true for the DC Comics universe. Movies will be grouped together as well. The Avengers movies will be grouped together, but the X-Men and Spider-Man movies will be listed separately because they are not the same 'verse. Likewise, the Nolan Batman movies and Superman movies will be listed separately from the comics and from each other. So if you want to keep that in mind when you are prompting, that's great! If you don't, that's fine, too, and we'll take care of it during the compiling period.
- This year, we are trying out anon commenting for the first time, due to the LJ situation. Anon comments are screened, and will be unscreened as soon as they are approved. If you post anon prompts, please do check back to see if we have any questions about your prompts.
EDITED: You are welcome to add new prompts throughout the prompting period but please do so in a new comment. Do not reply to your old comment or edit your old prompt. We are trying a new way of compiling prompts this year, so we may miss your prompt if you go back and reply to yours or edit your prompt. Just leave a new comment, please.
Prompting is over! Claiming will open on Monday, March 18.

Date: 2013-03-12 10:29 pm (UTC)Gunnerkrigg Court, any student character, For all of the Court's eccentricities and openness to the unusual, coming out in high school can still be rough.
Gunnerkrigg Court, Annie and Reynardine, Rey's pretty much become a father to Annie, which means he's the one Annie goes to when she's unsure, exactly, about her sexuality.
Gunnerkrigg Court, Kat, She's not gay and will deny it until she's blue in the face, but she lacks the vocabulary and understanding to self-identify as bisexual. How does someone teach her that there's more than just gay and straight?
Gunnerkrigg Court, Kat, Spending time with the robots and seeing Robot and Shadow's relationship helps Kat realise that while she might have romantic feelings for Annie, she is in fact asexual.
Gunnerkrigg Court, Kat, Trying to convince people that being a tomboy has nothing to do with her sexuality or with her gender identity. She's a girl, dammit, and who cares if she spends all her time working with robots in a boiler suit and has a crush on her best friend?
Gunnerkrigg Court, Paz, She wasn't being entirely truthful when she told Kat she wasn't 'like that'.
Gunnerkrigg Court, Shadow/Robot, First loves are hard enough when you're human. What unique issues are there for a male-identified three-dimensional shadow and a probably male-identified robot?
Legend of Zelda, Link (any but Skyward Sword), Learning more about the heroes that came before (canon and/or fanmade), learning that heroes don't necessarily have to be straight cis guys.
Legend of Zelda, Zelda (Ocarina of Time), Juggling being the sole heir of the Royal Family, having to continue the royal line, having to rebuild Hyrule, and being queer.
Pokemon, Marill line, The Marill line is curious in that some female-bodied Azurill evolve into male-bodied Marill. How does this affect their gender identity - is the change a relief, or a whole new problem?
Pokemon, any trainer character, The Marill line is curious in that some female-bodied Azurill evolve into male-bodied Marill. A trainer watches their now-Marill adjust to the change, and reflects on the similarities and differences with their own life.
Pokemon, any trainer character, The first step in coming out is coming out to your team.

Date: 2013-03-13 05:38 pm (UTC)Sherlock (BBC): John Watson. John was very young the first time he used 'queer' as an insult - and when his sister explained exactly what it meant, he never used it again. So when Anderson uses it on Sherlock, John can't help but respond.
MotoGP RPF: Mike Leitner, Dani Pedrosa. Mike has worked with Dani for years, and admires Dani greatly, so it's not terribly strange that they have such a close relationship; they're together all the time, they barely even need words to communicate anymore. Mike never needs to think about there being anything more than business between them - after all, there's no gay in racing. Until something happens that makes him have to think about it.
The Muppets (2012): Walter/Scooter. So it's no big deal for a frog to date a pig, but when two male muppets want to have a realtionship, everyone has a problem with it?
Red Dwarf: Kristine Kochanski. The alternate dimension that VII-Kris came from doesn't do sexuality in the same way ours does. Straight sex is only for the purpose of bearing children, and now that there is artificial insemination, that type of sex is seen as a bit crass. Same-sex relationships are so much cleaner, and so much better for the children!
Event Horizon: Dr. Willaim Wier. Thank goodness rationality ended up prevailing in the 2020s, with the tide of public opinion turning to the extent that homosexuality was once again rendered socially unacceptable in the '30s and '40s. And if someone was unable to keep from having sex with men, and if his wife commited suicide in shame - well, that's just his own moral failing, isn't it.

The focus in this fest is on queer characters and their experiences. In this prompt, it sounds as though only Harry and Sherlock are queer, and not John himself? If you want this prompt to be included, please reword it to place the focus on the queer characters and their experiences, instead of those of their allies.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, Steve can count the number of people he's come out to on one hand.
Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Catherine, One or both of them is gay/bi. They celebrate the repeal of DADT together.
Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Catherine, She's the only person who knows that he likes men too.
Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Five reactions that Steve wasn't expecting when he comes out to the important people in his life.
Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Steve's mom was the only person who knew that he was gay. After she died, Steve didn't feel safe enough to tell anyone for a long time.

Date: 2013-03-13 11:30 pm (UTC)RPF, any fandom, any character, no, actually, you do NOT have an obligation to come out!
RPF, any fandom, any character, it was very different to be famous and queer when you were young...
RPF, Sherlock (BBC), any character, the way in which the cast and crew increasingly vehemently deny that John or Sherlock are queer-identified in any way is starting to bother you, but speaking out might mean outing yourself.
RPF, Sherlock (BBC), any character, the way no one on this show seems to understand the concept of "bisexual" is starting to annoy you.
RPF, Sherlock (BBC), Martin Freeman, having an opposite sex partner and children does not mean you are straight.
RPF, Sherlock (BBC), Benedict Cumberbatch, he's never felt the need to hide his queerness, but he's never flaunted it either, and as his privacy becomes more and more prescious, it's rapidly becoming the one thing no one else knows about him. And he begins to treasure that.
RPF, Sherlock (BBC), Benedict Cumberbatch/Martin Freeman, it's not love if they're not having sex, is it?
RPF, Sherlock (BBC), Benedict Cumberbatch/Martin Freeman, Ben needs to define their relationship to feel comfortable and safe in it, while Martin doesn't give a fuck.
RPF, Sherlock (BBC), Benedict Cumberbatch/Martin Freeman/Amanda Abbington, the joke they make is that their relationship is 66.6% straight. Beyond that, it's a little hazy, but they don't really care.
Yikes! If I hadn't googled to look at old prompts, then I would have missed this year!
Date: 2013-03-14 03:16 am (UTC)Double Arts: Any Sister, She has always felt wrong in her own body, but she pushed it aside because her work was more important. Now, with the prospect of a cure in the near future (or a cure finally here), those feelings are rising to the surface again, and they are too strong to continue to ignore.
Firefly: Simon/Kaylee, What she has between her legs isn't anyone else's business as far as Kaylee is concerned, and she's perfectly comfortable with her body the way it is. Then Simon had to come along and complicate things.
Stargate SG-1: Any Tok'ra (including OCs), At least one Tok'ra has to have had a trans host at some point. Tell us their story.
Stargate SG-1: Any Tok'ra (including OCs), How do the Tok'ra view same-sex relationships?
Stargate SG-1: Charlie O'Neill, It wasn't an accident; (s)he just couldn't take it anymore. (Charlie can be ftm or mtf.)
New:
A Wrinkle in Time (movie): Meg Murry(/Calvin O'Keefe), "It's... it's just that I don't fit in my skin anymore. It feels all wrong and creepy."
Bleach: Hitsugaya Toushirou, He's finally growing up (well, starting puberty, at least), he should be happy, but the changes only make him feel sick.
Doctor Who: Susan Foreman, Susan accidentally lets the fact that she is trans slip (or the cat is let out of the bag during an adventure). Ian and Barbara react about as well as can be expected of two school teachers from the 1960s, which is to say not very well at all. (Susan does not have to ID as female, non-binary is cool too!)
Eureka Seven: Eureka/Renton, Just because the Scub Coral created her with a female body doesn't mean she identifies as female, and communicating this to Renton when she doesn't have the words to voice it is beyond frustrating. (Eureka is non-binary.)
Stargate SG-1: Any Tok'ra (including OCs), Among the tok'ra gender is fluid, and they identify according to their host. What happens when a symbiote blends with a host who is even more so?
Stargate (any): Any character, going through puberty a second time isn't the scary thing about being (permanently) de-aged, it's going through the WRONG puberty a second time.
Star Trek: Voyager: Seven of Nine, Meeting an out trans person causes Seven to question her gender identity.
The Dark Crystal: Any Gelfling, Having wings doesn't make him any less of a boy. (And they really are quite useful.)
The Dark Crystal: Any Gelfling, Not having wings doesn't make her any less of a girl.
Warehouse 13: Myka Bering, AU of "Nevermore" with an MtF Myka.
Warehouse 13: Claudia Donoven and (or /) Steve Jinks, Re-write the stake-out in "Trials" with an FtM Claude. (And any other scenes (from any episode) you'd like, too!)

Date: 2013-03-14 04:24 am (UTC)Enchanted Forest Chronicles, Morwen/Telemain, Daystar assumes that now that they're getting married, Morwen and Telemain are obviously going to have some children. One of them explains to him that won't be happening - partly because they're not as young as they used to be, yes, but mostly because neither of them is all that interested in having sex.
Wreck-It Ralph, any character, What does it mean to be queer as a computer program?
Wreck-It Ralph, Vanellope Von Schweetz, She's the president now; she can do what she wants. That darn well includes having a girlfriend.
Divergent series, any or original character, It was supposed to be easier to be asexual in Abnegation (whether it actually is or not is up to the author).
Harry Potter, Parvati and Padma Patil, They're not scarily similar twins the way Fred and George Weasley are, but they do have very similar taste in girls.

Date: 2013-03-14 07:06 am (UTC)Character A does not want to fill the expected pure-blood role of having married heterosexual sex so that the couple can produce children. So A pretends to be a squib (or finds a way to become a squib) as a way out of this destiny. (You could use a canon squib character such as Mrs. Figg or Apollyon Pringle if you wanted. Filch might work too if you say his mail order magic course was part of his cover.)
Harry Potter, any character,
No matter what character A's body supposedly says A is, and no matter what anybody says about A, A is neither straight nor human. A knows that they are really a werewolf/vampire [your choice of either creature] and a [your choice of orientation]. For now A has decided to experiment with polyjuice and creature hair so that they can see what it feels like to act in all ways like their true self without coming out about either of their two secrets, but A is wrestling with whether to make the physical change permanent and get bitten.
Harry Potter, any characters,
I'd love to see a real British LGBT place or event from the 50's, 60's, 70's or even the 80's in a Harry Potter framework. An actual 60's muggle cafe that had a gay clientele? A real muggle novel or movie? A news event? I'm just hoping for some historical or sociological context. You might find ideas at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_LGBT_history_in_Britain
Harry Potter, possibly Merope/Riddle Sr,
The Harry Potter universe has some very powerful love potions. How do you make sense of your life if you intellectually know you were once a different orientation, yet your feelings don't match your memories? Which one is real? And do you give different answers to the question at different points in your life? If you want you can use the story of how Merope Gaunt fed Tom Riddle Sr. love potions. There was a before (when he was not attracted to women), a middle period (when he was emotionally and sexually attracted to female Merope), and an after (when he was no longer attracted to women). What is his internal story at each stage?
Harry Potter, any nextgen character paired with any characters you want
Character A doesn't like sex, but in a BDSM context they like doing things they don't like. It makes sense to A, but nobody (or very few) people around them seem to get it, so sometimes they lie and say they like sex just to avoid being grilled by a potential BDSM top or dominant. (Take this beginning anywhere you like.)
Harry Potter, any half-blood, quarter-blood (muggle grandparents), or muggleborn character
Character A gets so confused. Their orientation (or identity) breaks rules and expectations in the muggle world and in the wizarding world. Only it breaks DIFFERENT rules in each world! (The rules and expectations could be verbalized or they could be unspoken rules of the kind that everybody within a culture knows without ever stating them.)

Supernatural, John Winchester, “Did you ever notice that Dad fell out with just about everyone?” Some of those people were male lovers. The internalized and externalized homophobia of the hunting community does not make for stable relationships.
Supernatural, Sam Winchester, One of his earliest memories is having a surgery no one will talk about. Sam guesses it might have something to do with the scar tissue on his genitalia, how they don’t look like other boys. Hearing the word intersex in a college sociology class makes him start to do some investigating. By the time Dean shows up he’s pretty secure in his identity, but hearing that dad lied to him about demon blood too brings the trauma back up.
Supernatural, Dean and Sam Winchester, Dean and Sam are both bi. Sam feels that Dean’s promiscuity reinforces negative stereotypes about bisexuality; Dean thinks that it’s not his job to change people’s bigoted opinions.
Supernatural, any hunter, Being a trans woman who can’t pass as cis makes dealing with the police very difficult.
Supernatural, Missouri Mosley, Being a stealth trans woman means you get to hear what people say about people like you when they think you’re not around. Being psychic means you can hear what they think too.
Supernatural, Missouri Mosley, Five fellow queer people Missouri’s read fortunes for.
The Big Bang Theory, Amy/Penny, Amy logically explains how not having had PIV sex doesn’t equal being a virgin.
The Simpsons, any character, Being queer in a small town like Springfield isn’t easy.
The Simpsons, Bart Simpson, Bart is genderqueer.
X-men Movieverse, any member of the Brotherhood, How are they meant to build a mutant utopia when some of their fellow mutants are homophobic/transphobic?
X-men Movieverse, any mutant character, A trans mutant explains why wanting to be mutant and proud, while not telling everyone they’re trans is not inconsistent.

Date: 2013-03-15 03:41 am (UTC).hack/SIGN: Shoji An (Tsukasa)/Misono Mariko (Subaru), Tsukasa was only male because An picked a male avatar, right? But then, why did Tsukasa's body feel like it fit so much better than hers ever did?
Bleach: Kusajishi Yachiru, Ken-chan was the first person to accept her as a girl, no questions asked.
Eureka Seven: Maurice, Sometimes he wonders what his birth parents would think if they knew Mama let him live as a boy.
Loveless: Youji/Natsuo, finding the shades of grey. (In regards to gender)
Tortall: Alianne, "Would you believe me if I said I was lonely?" (That's Kyprioth talking, in case you were wondering.)
Prompts that aren't mine, but that I want reposted:
Avatar: The Last Airbender: Zuko, Zuko's not female, but the Blue Spirit is.
Chronicles of Narnia: any Pevensie, "once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king OR queen of Narnia." Coming out as trans to Aslan, who takes it better than expected.
Bones, Russ Brennan, When their parents went into hiding it wasn't Kyle who became Russ, it was Kylie. How does Russ feel about Booth and his sister digging up his past--and will Tempe cut off contact with him (again) if/when she finds out he's trans?
Bones, Parker Booth and Seeley Booth and Temperance Brennan. When Parker confesses to her father that she's always felt like a girl, her dad has trouble understanding. Parker isn't sure if he's angry at her or at himself. But his friend Temperance seems to get it, so Parker enlists her help in showing Booth that this has nothing to do with how good of a dad he's been and everything to do with how much Parker needs him to be a good dad *now*.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Willow/ Kennedy, Kennedy isn't sure how to to tell Willow that she's MtF.
Fullmetal Alchemist: Edward Elric, Queer sexualities in Amestris are no big deal. The world on the other side of the gate sees things very differently. How does he cope?
House, House, House is uncharacteristically nice to a transgender patient, leading others to wonder why.
Tortall: Shinko/Kel, Roald/Shinko: Kel never thought she'd follow in the footsteps of Alanna, becoming a lover to royalty, but when Shinko waved her fan at Kel, and invited her to a long horseback ride, Kel discovers some interesting facts about herself, her princess and the realities of arranged marriage with royalty. She tries to tell Shinko this isn't appropriate in Tortall, but Shinko doesn't care, and that Roald just wants them to be discreet if they're going to continue taking long horseback rides. At least until they're King and Queen and they can engage in some reforms of their own.
(As a note I didn't see the don't edit your comment thing at first (it was late, forgive me!) and edited my first comment. It was only to fix a couple typos, and replace some inexplicably missing parts of a couple prompts, though! I just hope everything gets compiled as it is now.)

Date: 2013-03-15 03:36 pm (UTC)The X-Files, any character. Reproduction is particularly fraught in the world of The X-Files. What does this mean for queer characters within it?
Sherlock (BBC), John Watson. Five times he corrected somebody about his sexuality, and one time he didn't bother. (NB: Obviously I'm taking this to mean a not-straight John, but do as you like past that.)
Any fandom, any character. You may think you're over politics, but politics isn't over you.

Date: 2013-03-15 04:20 pm (UTC)Sherlock (BBC), Molly Hooper, if ONE more person asks her if her experiences with Sherlock and Moriarty "turned her gay" when she introduces her girlfriend, she will turn her scapel on them!
Sherlock (BBC), Molly Hooper, despite everything, one of the reasons why she cares for Sherlock so much is that he's always treated her as female, even when she rarely passed for it.
Sherlock (BBC), John Watson, it's not that he has a problem with identifying as something other than straight; it's that he hates complicating things, and even thinking about this is complicated!
Sherlock (BBC), John Watson OR John Watson/Sherlock Holmes, despite commenting on absolutely every other aspect of John's sexlife and relationships past and present, Sherlock has never touched on the fact that John had sex with men while in the army. Surely he must know? As time passes and John gets more and more obessed about it, he wonders why he cares so much.
Sherlock (BBC), Sherlock Holmes OR Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, he considered himself to be absolutely asexual until he met John.
Sherlock (BBC), Sherlock Holmes, it's easier to just say "sex is boring" rather than having to explain the concept of "homoromantic demisexual".
Sherlock (BBC), Sherlock Holmes, there are a lot of reasons why Sherlock didn't want that sheet to drop, and he wonders if he'll ever forgive Mycroft for making him think he'd actually do it. (FTM!Sherlock)
Sherlock (BBC), Sherlock Holmes/John Watson, it takes John a long time to come to terms with the idea of having sex with a man, but Sherlock can be patient; that's fine. What he worries about is what will happen when John sees Sherlock's vagina.
Sherlock (BBC), Irene Adler, sex is a job, and she enjoys her job, but that doesn't change the fact that she's asexual.
Sherlock (BBC), Sally Donovan, it's not that she wouldn't like to be openly queer, it's just that she's having enough dealing with belonging to two minorities in the police force right now.
Elementary, Sherlock Holmes/Joan Watson, the main reason they've not
acted on their attraction to one another is the fact they they both
know they would be read as a straight couple, and neither one of them
is comfortable with that.
Elementary, Joan Watson, she never talks about her military career,
because it inevitably leads to people asking why she no longer has
one. Sherlock must know, so she wonders why he never mentions it, not
even when they work a case involving now openly gay US soldiers...

Date: 2013-03-15 04:42 pm (UTC)Final Fantasy X, Tidus or Jecht or original character, Zanarkand and Spira are two very different places in terms of queer experience (the kind of non-straight/cis, as well as which place is the better experience, are up to the author).
