Queer Fest Prompt Post 2013

This is the prompting post!

Prompts can be from any fandom. Please read the rules post first.

When leaving prompts, please leave them in the following form: Fandom, characters, prompt.

Crossovers should be left in the following form: Crossover, fandom a/fandom b, characters, prompt. (please put fandoms in alphabetical order)

RPF prompts should be left in the following form: RPF, fandom(s), characters, prompt.

You can leave as many prompts per comment as you like and as many prompts in one comment as you like! You do not have to plan to claim prompts in order to post prompts and posting prompts does not mean you have to participate in the claiming round. If you wish to recycle prompts from previous rounds of queer_fest or lgbtfest, you are welcome to do so.

Any questions/concerns about prompts should go to the rules post or via pm to the mod account. The rules post has been set to screen all comments to preserve privacy. If it's just a general question and not a problem with a prompt, it will be unscreened. Please contact us if you have a problem.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Comics fandoms: When prompts are compiled for claiming, all Marvel comics will be grouped together by universe - i.e., Marvel 616 or Marvel Ultimates, including the X-Men. The same is true for the DC Comics universe. Movies will be grouped together as well. The Avengers movies will be grouped together, but the X-Men and Spider-Man movies will be listed separately because they are not the same 'verse. Likewise, the Nolan Batman movies and Superman movies will be listed separately from the comics and from each other.  So if you want to keep that in mind when you are prompting, that's great! If you don't, that's fine, too, and we'll take care of it during the compiling period.

  • This year, we are trying out anon commenting for the first time, due to the LJ situation. Anon comments are screened, and will be unscreened as soon as they are approved. If you post anon prompts, please do check back to see if we have any questions about your prompts.

Happy prompting! Prompting will remain open until Friday, March 15th @ 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

EDITED: You are welcome to add new prompts throughout the prompting period but please do so in a new comment. Do not reply to your old comment or edit your old prompt. We are trying a new way of compiling prompts this year, so we may miss your prompt if you go back and reply to yours or edit your prompt. Just leave a new comment, please.

Prompting is over! Claiming will open on Monday, March 18.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Spike, the first time Spike was attracted to a man

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Willow and Giles, Willow is worried about what Giles will think when he finds out about her and Tara. Turns out she had nothing to be worried about.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Willow, Willow is tired of everyone using "witches" as a euphemism when talking about her and Tara.

Harry Potter, Luna,
Luna sometimes runs into trouble because she doesn't think in term of gender divisions or really understand them. So the all (or mostly) heterosexul mating dance that is the Yule Ball puzzles her greatly. She had thought each house was subdivided into seperate dorm rooms somewhat arbitrarily. So why is it that who you are expected to ask to the dance is limited by which dorm room they live in? (Referring to divisions of Ravenclaw girls dorm, Ravenclaw boys, Hufflepuff girls, etc...) It's up to the writer whether Luna figures out that the division is based on a couple arbitrary physical features.

Harry Potter, any pure-blood character in their late teens or early twenties (one possibility is a Draco/Harry story),
Character A thinks their parents are being accepting because they politely greet the same-sex half-blood person who takes A out on a date. They mostly treat A's date how they've treated past dates. Sure A's parents might be a little stiff or cool towards the date, but A is still thrilled with the level of acceptance they are showing. Then A mentions the possibility of a date with an opposite-sex half-blood person, and the reaction is astounding. Possibilities include screaming, ultimatums, sobbing, a where-did-we-go-wrong speech, a your-father's-health-can't-take-this speech, etc.... Character A realizes that their parents' earlier acceptance was never actually there. To A's parents, only relationships that could produce children are real relationships. Anything else is just play. [Writers, take this beginning anywhere you want and go with any orientation you want for A. A could be bi, gay, lesbian, pansexual, etc...]

Any fandom: any characters: A queer dystopia (interpreted in any light the author chooses)

Any Fandom: any bipolar character, or bipolar OFC. She never figured she needed to ID as anything other than straight: the only time she slept with girls was when she was manic. Mania releases inhibitions and she always thought that was bad, but what if this particular inhibition is one that it might be better for her to let go of?

Any Fandom: any developmentally disabled character. Xie has to learn how to name and understand what xie's been feeling all these years -- xir parents felt their child would "never need to know about all that", and most of the rest of the world followed suit. Character can be any shade of queer.

Les Miserables: Jean Valjean/Javert - Valjean pulls Javert back just as he's about to jump. Valjean has to come to terms with why he couldn't let Javert do it. Javert has to come to terms with the full reason that he was jumping in the first place.

Les Miserables: Marius has this idea that if he acts really really excited and totally head-over-heels about a girl he'll start believing it soon. This also involves trying to believe it means nothing that he actually is really really excited and totally head-over-heels about Enjolras. None of it is working.
lonelywalker: A young man in a baseball cap lying on his back, eyes closed, with the text "effort and error, study and love" (writing)

Harry Potter, Remus Lupin, The fact that he has a thing for Tonks doesn't invalidate his relationship with Sirius. And the fact that he's had insecurities in both relationships has nothing to do with his sexuality.

Cabin Pressure, any character, you don't quite know why, but now that MJN might possibly fall apart, it's important for you to come out. Perhaps it's that you'd like the rest of the crew to remember you as the person you are, exactly.

Cabin Pressure, Martin Crieff, continuing a trend in his life, when Martin decides to come out to his family, they already know and accept him for who he is.

Cabin Pressure, Martin Crieff, now that he has a girlfriend, he's not queer anymore, right? It's such a relief! Except for the times when it isn't, which is more or less all of the time.

Cabin Pressure, Martin Crieff/any male character, as long as he can define what they're doing as kink, not sex, he's fine with it, and the internalized homophobia doesn't get too bad. But that line blurs pretty quickly.

Cabin Pressure, Martin Crieff, Martin wouldn't be so sensitive about his height if it wasn't for the fact that it might start people wondering why he never has to shave. Thankfully his voice has always been deep...

Cabin Pressure, Arthur Shappey, when a male passenger keeps hitting on Arthur, the rest of the crew take turns trying to 'rescue' him, thinking he's too innocent to realize what's going on - but Arthur doesn't want to be rescued!

Cabin Pressure, Arthur Shappey, just because he doesn't know a lot of queer terms doesn't mean they don't apply to him.

Cabin Pressure, Arthur Shappey, he's never come out because he didn't know that it was a thing that people did.

Cabin Pressure, Douglas Richardson, he's not ashamed of who he is; it's just that other people are idiots and act as such when he tells them. He's not quite sure about Martin just yet, though...

Cabin Pressure, Douglas Richardson, he envies Martin for the acceptance his family showers on him (and Martin doesn't even notice). Not everyone can be so lucky...

Cabin Pressure, Carolyn Knapp-Shappey/Hercules Shipwright, it's not that Carolyn doesn't... not hate Herc; it's that she's had too many relationships falter when her partners find out who she really is. (Queer identity of writer's choice.)

Cabin Pressure, Arthur Shappey/Martin Crieff, Martin isn't sure if he's more freaked out by the idea of being in a same-sex relationship or the fact that Arthur doesn't seem bothered at all.

Red Dwarf, Arnold Judas Rimmer, Io is the place in the solar system where prejudice went to die, and it's where Rimmer grew up. As he sees it, just because the rest of human civilization is dead, doesn't mean they aren't still judging him for being gay.

Red Dwarf, Arnold Judas Rimmer, he's tried to reprogram himself to not be gay anymore, more than once. It's never worked.

Red Dwarf, Arnold Judas Rimmer, the only way he can deal with a gay identity, is to enforce very strict codes of conduct upon himself. Gay people dress, act and behave in a certain way, as Rimmer sees it, so now, so must he!

Red Dwarf, David Lister, he just likes sex, and people. He's never felt the need to define it before, but Rimmer won't stop smegging asking.

Red Dwarf, David Lister, Lister has never felt tied down to a gender anymore than a career.

Red Dwarf, David Lister/Kristine Kochanski, when he finds another Kochanski (again), this alternate isn't exactly female. Lister is surprised to find he's OK with that.

Red Dwarf, Holly, if you don't have to pick a gender, why should you?

Red Dwarf, David Lister/Arnold Judas Rimmer, there are a lot of different Rimmers and Listers in a lot of different relationships out there in the multiverse, but all of them are queer.

Red Dwarf, Arnold Judas Rimmer, he always assumed that the reason he didn't have a sex drive was due to all the cabbage he ate at school. But he doesn't eat now, and he's still asexual.

Character A wants to know why Character B needs to make such a fuss about coming out. After all Character A doesn't blather on and on about being straight. Character B responds by casting a spell on A that makes A go silent (or still) and time they are about to use words (or actions) to comment on aspects of their own straightness.
