Queer Fest Prompt Post 2013

This is the prompting post!

Prompts can be from any fandom. Please read the rules post first.

When leaving prompts, please leave them in the following form: Fandom, characters, prompt.

Crossovers should be left in the following form: Crossover, fandom a/fandom b, characters, prompt. (please put fandoms in alphabetical order)

RPF prompts should be left in the following form: RPF, fandom(s), characters, prompt.

You can leave as many prompts per comment as you like and as many prompts in one comment as you like! You do not have to plan to claim prompts in order to post prompts and posting prompts does not mean you have to participate in the claiming round. If you wish to recycle prompts from previous rounds of queer_fest or lgbtfest, you are welcome to do so.

Any questions/concerns about prompts should go to the rules post or via pm to the mod account. The rules post has been set to screen all comments to preserve privacy. If it's just a general question and not a problem with a prompt, it will be unscreened. Please contact us if you have a problem.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Comics fandoms: When prompts are compiled for claiming, all Marvel comics will be grouped together by universe - i.e., Marvel 616 or Marvel Ultimates, including the X-Men. The same is true for the DC Comics universe. Movies will be grouped together as well. The Avengers movies will be grouped together, but the X-Men and Spider-Man movies will be listed separately because they are not the same 'verse. Likewise, the Nolan Batman movies and Superman movies will be listed separately from the comics and from each other.  So if you want to keep that in mind when you are prompting, that's great! If you don't, that's fine, too, and we'll take care of it during the compiling period.

  • This year, we are trying out anon commenting for the first time, due to the LJ situation. Anon comments are screened, and will be unscreened as soon as they are approved. If you post anon prompts, please do check back to see if we have any questions about your prompts.

Happy prompting! Prompting will remain open until Friday, March 15th @ 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

EDITED: You are welcome to add new prompts throughout the prompting period but please do so in a new comment. Do not reply to your old comment or edit your old prompt. We are trying a new way of compiling prompts this year, so we may miss your prompt if you go back and reply to yours or edit your prompt. Just leave a new comment, please.

Prompting is over! Claiming will open on Monday, March 18.

Ace Attorney, FtM!Ron DeLite/Desiree Delite, Desiree supports Ron through transitioning.
Ace Attorney, FtM!Ron DeLite, "If you're supposed to be a man, why do you look so much like a girl?" Why Godot's words on 'being a man' meant so much to Ron.
Ace Attorney, Ron DeLite, DeMasque was a small issue compared to telling his wife that, as much as he loves her and loves having sex with her, he likes men too. Even if she accepts him, he's not sure he could make it through the announcement without his voice giving out...
Ace Attorney, original Yatagarasu, Is it the Yatagarasu's business to out an anti-gay activist, even if the target's affected them personally?

Alice: Madness Returns, Alice Liddell, The population of Wonderland tend to know Alice's mind better than she does, and aren't shy about telling her about it.

DC comics, Batman (any canon), Jonathan Crane, Why do they think his asexuality has anything to do with his past traumas or present...interests? Honestly, Arkham seems to be hiring from community colleges these days.
DC Comics, Batman: The Animated Series, Harley Quinn, Meeting the Joker was a turning point in Harley's life. Meeting Poison Ivy just helped bring something hidden to the surface.
DC comics, Batman: The Animated Series, trans!Edward Nygma, Nygma solves the puzzle of oneself. The problem wasn't answering the question, it was knowing what questions to ask in the first place.
Batman, Harvey Dent, he flips the coin for everything.

DCAU (Justice League Unlimited), Vigilante/Shining Knight, Being made to see that durn cowboy movie (Brokeback Mountain) done gave Vigilante *ideas*. But how does one go about courtin' a guy from a different *millennia*, let alone century - without getting his head kicked in by Winged Victory, or cut off by a sword. And if he's doin' the courtin', is he the man, or what? (Basically, generational differences on homosexuality/gender roles).

Transformers (any canon), Trying to come out to your fellow humans is difficult enough without trying to explain things to Alien robots

Star Trek Enterprise, Dr. Phlox, Denobulan conception and categorization of sexuality are actually far more complicated than human ones. Fortunately, Phlox brought charts.

Psychonauts, any character, closeting as represented in the mental world.

James Bond, Craig!James Bond/person of choice (though Q preferred), Bond is asexual but so used to hiding it that faking sexual attraction has become his norm.

Any fandom, any character, an asexual character finds sex tolerable but dull. How does their sex partner keep it entertaining for both of them?
Any Fandom : any character, Being gay isn't easy even when you're beautiful, but it sure helps. Tell me the story of a GLBT person who doesn't fit conventional standards of beauty - but is totally awesome anyway.
Any fandom, any character, an asexual feeling unwelcome in an LGBT community that refuses to consider them queer.
Any fandom, any character, five times things were explained to children, and one time they were explained to adults.
Any fandom, any character, an older queer person tries to convince a younger one to stay in. The younger one tries to convince them to come out. (The two are not in a romantic/sexual relationship.)
Any fandom, any character, Everyone sees your 'gay' marriage as a beautiful achievement for human rights...so how do you tell them it was actually a straight marriage?
Any fandom, any character, Being queer and mentally ill, and knowing the difference between the two.
Any superhero fandom, any super___ character, using the costume to present as the right gender when the secret identity can't.
Any fandom, any characters, a queer community formed in an unexpected place.
Any sci-fi fandom, any character, interspecies cultural confusion on sexuality/gender norms, hilarity ensues.
Any fandom, any criminal the freedom that comes with no longer needing to abide by the laws of society.

The Silmarillion, Melian/Thingol, Every now and then Melian will change to a male (or partly male) body. Thingol was quite surprised the first few times, but now he rather enjoys it.

Chronicles of Chrestomanci, Christopher Chant. Christopher isn’t attracted to anyone, not the way that everyone else seems to be.

Good Omens, Aziraphale. It takes a ridiculously long time for Aziraphale to grasp the fact that everyone he meets after 1890 thinks he’s gay, because he has never thought to apply human sexualities to himself.

Harry Potter, Ron Weasley. Ron gets crushes on both his male and female friends at various points in his life, and doesn’t have a lot of guidance or support available to him at Hogwarts.

Supernatural, Ruby. When she was alive, Ruby was intersex or MtF, and sold her soul for the right body.

La vida es sueño, Segismundo. Segismundo falls in love with Rosaura as a man first, and then as a woman. Discuss.

Young Wizards, Dairine Callahan. The Manual can tell Dairine how to rewrite the fabric of spacetime, but it doesn’t have instructions on what to do if she gets a crush on another girl.

Any; Any; Yes, there is abuse/assault/trauma in their background. Yes, they are asexual. Yes, the former might have contributed to the latter. But that doesn't make their orientation any less valid.

Inception; Eames/Arthur/Ariadne; all of them are queer, all of them are different, and they make it work.

Craig!Bond Movies; Camille Montes; she fakes attraction when she has to (be it for missions - Bolivian Secret Service or her own - or just having to get by), but it's always something of a relief when she doesn't have to.

Craig!Bond Movies; Camille Montes; letting herself heal enough to have a life also means working out her sexuality (author's choice)

Snow White and the Huntsman; Snow White; she is tied to the land and the people who live on it, it took more than one kiss to bring her back, and her heart is big enough for everyone, no matter the gender. It just takes her a while to grow into this awareness (ten years in a cell will do that to a girl)

Discworld; Maladict; he confessed to being a girl because he thought that's what he was. But it didn't take long for him to realize that being a boy had fit him more than anything else.

John Carter (any medium); Sola; As a Thrak, her desires are timed to the mating season. But love, she is discovering, isn't tied to any such thing.

The Losers (2010); Jenson/Cougar; they love women, they love having sex with women - they are just also pretty damn devoted to each other, too.

The Losers (2010); Aisha al-Fadhil; she does what she wants, and who she wants.

Tortall; Alanna of Trebond and Olau; missing being Alan.

Tortall; Alanna of Trebond/Delia of Eldorne; Alanna hated the thought of Delia being with Jonathon, but sometimes she couldn't work out who exactly she was jealous of

Criminal Minds, Emily Prentiss, She could pass for straight in a room full of profilers, but she's starting to think she doesn't want to.

Doctor Who, River Song, She loves the Doctor in every incarnation she's met; she married Eleven and she died for Ten. But it's a later, female version that she actually fell in love with.

Hawaii Five-0, Mary Anne McGarrett, Not telling her brother she's gay isn't the same as keeping it a secret, exactly, but apparently Steve doesn't see it that way.

Hawaii Five-0, any character, They weren't going to come out but they've been seeing someone new and it's starting to get serious.

NCIS: Los Angeles, Hetty, She's been keeping secrets her whole life, what's one more? (Hetty is a lesbian.)

Sarah Jane Adventures, Luke Smith, Luke navigates the queer community at university and tries to sort out his feelings for Clyde.

Sarah Jane Adventures, Maria, She's having a hard time convincing her mum that she's serious about this whole queer thing.

Twilight, Leah, werewolves imprint on girls.

Twilight, any werewolf, imprinting is difficult to explain, doubly so if you're ace.

Young Wizards, any character, Being a wizard lets you reboot the universe--can you reboot yourself, too? A wizard deals with a spell or messing with their name in an attempt to "fix" their sexuality.

Young Wizards, any character, Being a wizard lets you reboot the universe--can you reboot yourself, too? A trans* wizard deals with a spell/changes their name in an attempt to change their body to one that fits better.

Tortall. Keladry&OC. Kel makes friends with a beautiful noblewoman, and palace gossip has them in bed together within in a week. Kel is straight but her new friend isn't. What's it like being a noblewoman and a lesbian? (With Kel as a BAMF ally, please)

Tortall. Four new pages are girls, and the whispers have started about them. They're sluts, ugly, gay or a combination of the three. Three of the girls go out of the way to prove these claims wrong, but one isn't so sure if the whisperers' are wrong about her.

BtVS. Faith/OC. Faith has always been a little afraid of falling in love, but when it happens, it's wonderful. Pity she doesn't deserve it.

BtVs. Faith/ Willow or Faith & Willow. What does a Dark Slayer have to teach a former Dark Witch?

MCU, Imagine Me & You AU. Pepper is finally in a committed(ish) relationship with Tony. She has everything she ever wanted, doesn't she?

The Hobbit. Any/ Any. Bilbo is ready for pretty much anything to happen on the quest at this point, except romantic relationships among his companions. They're all men right? And men don't have sex with men? He's wrong on both counts.

Scandal. Olivia/Any. Liv is trying to forget the douchey men in her life, and an old flame who needs her help comes back into town. Well, at least she's not a douchey man.

Scandal. Cyrus(/James). Cyrus is evil. And he knows it.

RPF (Football/Soccer), Cristiano Ronaldo, he's always wanted to be a father and he thought this was the best way he could achieve that without having to come out (author's choice as to what kind of coming out he wishes to avoid).

Any modern day fandom, any female character, she doesn't mind the magazines that are magazines for gay men, she minds the ones that claim to be GLB magazine but only ever seem to feature gay men.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Rupert Giles, Gay or Bi Giles doesn't quite get some of the Scoobies and/or Potentials using the term 'queer' to describe LGBT people; he's only ever heard it used as an insult by those who hated and wanted to hurt him and his friends.

Bomb Girls, Betty McRae, She doesn't like to think about a time after the war, because of all the things she knows she'll never have.

Cabin Pressure, Martin Crieff, Introducing his boyfriend to his friends and family really shouldn't be this hard. Except, well, he's not exactly out, not as such… not in the sense that he's ever told anyone that he- not that he's ever pretended otherwise! - but people do have certain expectations and and and- this is going to be a disaster, isn't it? (It isn't.)

Marvel Cinematic Universe, Tony Stark, Tony stopped trying to live up to his father’s expectations years ago. He’s rich, he’s a genius and he’ll do whatever he wants whenever he wants. Except men. But that doesn't count. Because he doesn't want to. And because it's a Bad Idea. And because… yeah, okay, maybe he does have just a few residual issues there.

True Blood, Tara Thornton, She's not herself when she falls for Naomi. Or maybe that's not true, maybe here, far from everyone who used to tell her who she way, maybe now she finally is herself.

The West Wing, Josh Lyman/OMC, Josh isn't homophobic, but he's definitely straight. Definitely, absolutely, no question about it. So there's no way he could be falling for a man. And if his friends think they notice a change in him, they're definitely, definitely wrong. …Right?

Doctor Who, Jack Harkness, One of the strange things about traveling with Rose and the Doctor (early on, anyway) was Rose's outdated conceptions of sexuality.

Doctor Who, Martha Jones, Being with the Doctor - or working with Torchwood - and being out is so very different than being out at UNIT.

Doctor Who, Martha Jones and Ianto Jones. Martha hadn't thought that medical students would be homophobic, and she hadn't thought that the office temp would be the one to offer her a shoulder to cry on.

MCU, Steve Rogers, being with men was easier during the war; back then he understood the rules

Torchwood, (the other) Captain Jack Harkness, When Torchwood!Jack and Toshiko go back through the Rift Cpt Jack Harkness (RAF) is left standing in a crowd of his men; who have all just seen him dance with and kiss another man.

Torchwood, any character, Five lies s/he wouldn't have told if s/he'd been straight

Torchwood, Jack Harkness, 5 people/aliens Jack slept with whose sexualities and gender identities can only be explained with complicated flowcharts.

Torchwood, Jack Harkness, the experience of Jack and other queer soldiers in WW2 (or WW1, or both).

Torchwood, Jack Harkness, ok, fandom, I challenge you to write a canon-compliant, in-character, asexual-Jack story. (If he's ace, why does he act the way he does? What influence does the Doctor's example have on him? Does Ianto know, and if so how does he handle it? Does Gwen find out & what's her reaction? Do Jack and the Doctor get a happily-ever-after?)

Torchwood, Jack Harkness; He'd studied history extensively while with the Time Agency, but it hadn't prepared him for his first mission to the (mid-late) 20th century and their reactions to alternate sexualities.

Torchwood, Jack Harkness, He knows Earth's LGBT history, but living it is completely different.

RPF, Fall Out Boy, Pete Wentz, he once famously described himself as "gay above the waist." Take that as homoromantic and -sexual of your choice.
RPF, music, William Beckett, being quietly bi in the comfort of Decaydance was one thing, where there was always someone else's antics to take attention off him. Now that he's gone solo, though, maybe it's time to put up or shut up, as it were.
RPF, Cobra Starship, Gabe Saporta, when your whole career is performance art and aggressive statements that are meant to shock, trying to come out is harder than expected. (Gabe's identity is writer's choice.)

Elementary, Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock is FTM.
Elementary, Sherlock Holmes & Joan Watson, negotiating an asexual kink relationship. (either or both characters can be ace)
Elementary, Joan Watson, Joan doesn't see any reason to come out to Sherlock; it's irrelevant to their working relationship. He disagrees strongly. (Joan's identity is writer's choice.)

Bletchley Circle, Millie/Lucy, the postwar English lesbian scene.

Call the Midwife, any of the nurses, living among nuns is comforting in unexpected ways for someone figuring out her asexuality, even if it doesn't come with a religious calling.

Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar books, Tarma shena Tale'sedrin, gaining asexuality via divine intervention and finding that it's right for her, but not forgetting what she had before. (Tarma moves from identifying as lesbian to asexual)

Archer, Pam Poovey, Pam tries to bring bi pride to the ISIS office.

Once Upon a Time, a teenage Henry worries about coming out to his more "traditional" Storybrooke family and friends.

Once Upon a Time, Dr. Whale as an aromantic asexual in the fairytale culture of "True Love."

Once Upon a Time, now that he's older, Henry wants to find his true love but is worried that his asexuality will prevent him from doing so. His family convinces him otherwise.

Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers, Since he's come back, Steve's been the constant punchline of people who think he is old-fashioned. Yet when Steve comes out, one of the people who gave Steve the hardest time is also the least welcoming.

Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers/any, Steve is happy to be an out rolemodel. But some things need to stay private, and part of the fun of actually having a partner is discussing what gets told in interviews and what doesn't.

(Anonymous) 2013-03-06 07:32 am (UTC)(link)
MCU, Tony Stark/Pepper Potts, when Howard Stark gave the Birds and the Bees and Facts of Life speech, he was drunk and it lasted about five minutes. When Tony is giving his speech to the child he has with Pepper, the speech is given completely sober. Thanks to his queer experiences, he also makes some other changes to the speech from dear old dad's version.

Marvel Comics, Natasha Stark, It took people in her personal life long enough to get used to understanding that she is a woman. She's not quite up for an encore, so Natasha is very quick to correct reporters who mistake her armored persona as "Iron Man."

Snow White and the Huntsman; William; he has ever been devoted to Snow White - but by her side, not in her bed. [author's choice as to if he's ace or gay]

Snow White and the Huntsman; William; with Snow White dead, it was easy to assume that his lack of attraction to women was because of his guilt about her. But now she is his queen, he doesn't have that excuse anymore.

Snow White and the Huntsman; William; trying to untangle his true feelings and sense of self out of the cultural tropes.

MCU; Steve Rogers; bi!Steve, and the queer subculture of 30s/40s Brooklyn

MCU; Pepper Potts; she had decided not to tell anyone that she was MtF - but she finds herself changing her mind.

MCU; Christine Everheart; even feminists who went to Brown can take a while to sort out their sexuality/identity. [author's choice]

MCU; Christine Everheart; being genderqueer, and having to pass at work.

NCIS: LA; Callen; Callen has a lot of things going on in his life. It's easy to let people think that he just doesn't have time for romance. [ace!Callen]

RocknRolla; Handsome Bob; it was really fucking annoying the way people would assume that because his mates were criminals, they'd get him being a poof. Sure, most of them were fine with it, but he wasn't stupid enough to assume that.

RocknRolla; Handsome Bob and One Two; the fallout from Handsome Bob's confession wasn't as straight-forward as you might think.

Twilight Saga; Jane (movie!verse); being lesbian amongst the Volturi

Cable and Deadpool, Wade Wilson/Nathan Summers, acting married turns out to be a lot easier than getting married
(sorry, comics fandom but I've no idea what the universe is called)

Covert Affairs, Auggie Anderson, it turns out that his being bisexual is a lot more of a problem for some people than his being blind ever was

Nightside (books), Julien Advent, it's easy to tell himself he can't really love another woman after Irene, but the truth is a bit more complicated
Nightside (books), Razor Eddie, the Punk God of the Straight Razor does not approve of gaybashing. (he takes it rather personally.)
Nightside (books), Walker, outside, he always needs to worry about what people might say - but in the Nightside, having an affair with another man is so commonplace that it doesn't even occur to anyone they might use it as leverage against him
