This is the prompting post!

Prompts can be from any fandom. Please read the rules post first.

When leaving prompts, please leave them in the following form: Fandom, characters, prompt.

Crossovers should be left in the following form: Crossover, fandom a/fandom b, characters, prompt. (please put fandoms in alphabetical order)

RPF prompts should be left in the following form: RPF, fandom(s), characters, prompt.

You can leave as many prompts per comment as you like and as many prompts in one comment as you like! You do not have to plan to claim prompts in order to post prompts and posting prompts does not mean you have to participate in the claiming round. If you wish to recycle prompts from previous rounds of queer_fest or lgbtfest, you are welcome to do so.

Any questions/concerns about prompts should go to the rules post or via pm to the mod account. The rules post has been set to screen all comments to preserve privacy. If it's just a general question and not a problem with a prompt, it will be unscreened. Please contact us if you have a problem.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Comics fandoms: When prompts are compiled for claiming, all Marvel comics will be grouped together by universe - i.e., Marvel 616 or Marvel Ultimates, including the X-Men. The same is true for the DC Comics universe. Movies will be grouped together as well. The Avengers movies will be grouped together, but the X-Men and Spider-Man movies will be listed separately because they are not the same 'verse. Likewise, the Nolan Batman movies and Superman movies will be listed separately from the comics and from each other.  So if you want to keep that in mind when you are prompting, that's great! If you don't, that's fine, too, and we'll take care of it during the compiling period.

  • This year, we are trying out anon commenting for the first time, due to the LJ situation. Anon comments are screened, and will be unscreened as soon as they are approved. If you post anon prompts, please do check back to see if we have any questions about your prompts.

Happy prompting! Prompting will remain open until Friday, March 15th @ 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

EDITED: You are welcome to add new prompts throughout the prompting period but please do so in a new comment. Do not reply to your old comment or edit your old prompt. We are trying a new way of compiling prompts this year, so we may miss your prompt if you go back and reply to yours or edit your prompt. Just leave a new comment, please.

Prompting is over! Claiming will open on Monday, March 18.

Marvel Comics, Billy Kaplan, if combing his hair differently makes him too "stereotypically gay" according to anyone, Billy knows that the problem is with them.

Marvel Cinematic Universe, Steve Rogers, Steve watches a lot of news and he knows this whole "we're fine with queer people" stuff isn't exactly true so he'd like it if people would quit acting like it was just his time period that was awful.

6. Supernatural, Dean, it doesn't come as a surprise to Sam that Dean's gay, but Dean denies it. No Wincest or Destiel, please. In fact, I'd prefer this to be gen, in the sense that Dean doesn't actually fall in love/find his other half.

Transformers Prime, Miko Nakadai, the reasons she gave Jack for leaving Japan were true, but they were only part of it. what she really doesn't want to explain--to her parents or anyone--is that she's asexual. Too bad Bulkhead is more perceptive than he lets on.

Any fandom with aliens, any character(s), When someone is heterosexually attracted to their own species, but homosexually attracted to another, are they still considered bisexual? Bispecial? A character considers labels.

Castle, Lanie Parrish/Javier Esposito/Kevin Ryan/Jenny Ryan, They have an arrangement that works for all four of them. Now if only they were all ready for the same amount of commitment to that arrangement...

Elementary, Sherlock Holmes, Putting up with the sex because it's the only way he can satisfy his kinks.

Psych, Burton Guster & or / Shawn Spencer, Gus didn't always understand his best friend, but he trusted Shawna, so when she told him one day that her body had been made wrong, he just shrugged and started calling him Shawn.

Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Jake Sisko/Nog, Nog's been defying Ferengi tradition his entire adult life, what's one more?
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Jadzia or Ezri Dax, Her sexuality changed after she received the symbiont, and she's not sure how to feel about that.

Stargate Atlantis, John Sheppard, Being asexual in the military was difficult. Being asexual and the military leader of an isolated, work-focused group isn't so bad. Being asexual when you've somehow developed a reputation as a lothario is downright painful.

Stargate SG-1, Janet Frasier, She still can't believe her luck, having a daughter without needing to have sex to get her.

Supernatural, any angel, They've developed a preference for a certain gender of vessel, and that's problematic; angels are meant to be genderless. They try to "fix" the problem, but instead get trans* support from an unexpected source.
Supernatural, Becky Rosen/Charlie Bradbury, Becky never thought she'd fall in love with a Supernatural fan she met over the internet, let alone one who knew the brothers were real. That she's a woman is secondary.
Supernatural, Charlie Bradbury, Being a geeky lesbian means being torn between ogling the gorgeous costumes and characters that "male gaze" provides and being furious about the misogyny and fetishization of her identity.

Teen Wolf, Danny Mahealani/Stiles Stilinski, Danny doesn't appreciate being used to validate Stiles' attractiveness. Then Stiles comes out and asks him out in the same sentence.

Warehouse 13, Artie Nielsen(/James MacPherson), Artie thought he was done with this coming-out business, but then Mrs. Frederic hired new agents, and Claudia Donovan is the single nosiest person on the planet, and his ex-partner (in more ways than one) is up to no good, and past a certain point, even Myka can't help asking the question.
Warehouse 13, Leena, People think her pansexuality is just part of that "psychic hippie thing" she does, but it's completely separate.
Warehouse 13, Steve Jinks (& or / Author's Choice), Because of his ability Steve knows he isn't the only queer person at the warehouse.

Any comedy fandom, any comedian, just because you're gay doesn't mean it should be the only thing you're allowed to make jokes about.
Any fandom, any characters, Post-apocalyptic. You thought being queer sucked when there were six billion humans, a reasonably steady supply of food and water, and *zero* hordes of ravening undead.
Any comedy RPS fandom, any characters, all the fans thinks your comedy partner is the 'gay one', and the more they joke about it, the more they fap about it on the internet, the more you want to yell at them who you really are.
Any fandom, Any character 40+, Questioning your sexuality after over two decades of not questioning is hard—especially when no one believes you. But sometimes all it takes is one person to care enough to listen.
Any fandom, any character, Five lies s/he wouldn't have told if s/he'd been straight.
Any fandom, any characters, Just because they're both queer, doesn't mean they agree about politics. At all.
Any fandom, any non-op FtM character, He's been living successfully as a man for decades - so what happens when he finds himself in need of an abortion?
Any fandom, any characters, why is it so hard for character to accept that they are kinky, when it was so easy to accept that they are LGBT(QIA)?
Any fandom, any character, In later life, does coming out even *matter* anymore? Perhaps he/she should just let people assume what they've always assumed.
Any fandom, any character, "Not all trans guys were lesbians first, you know." A nonstandard (FtM) trans narrative.
Any fandom, any character, a gay or bi FtM character becomes pregnant and tries to cope with how that affects gender roles in his relationship.
Any fandom, any character, zie's tired of coming out as trans because then everyone thinks zie's too butch to be MtF or too femme to be FtM.
Any fandom, any character(s), 'Sometimes I feel like a fraud because I didn’t grow up wanting to be a boy like other trans men did.'
Any fandom, any character, Being LGBT and an introvert, outside anything anyone would call a scene, making a community where you find it.
Any fandom, any non-op trans* character, dealing with the pressure to transition, whether from the trans* community, their support network, or society at large.
Any fandom, any trans* character, identifying as trans* as well as outside the gender binary.

The Adventures of Lano & Woodley (TV series), Colin Lane/Frank Woodley, Col wouldn't have guessed Frank would be the one who recognised how gay their relationship had become before he did.

Double The Fist, The Womp/Steve Foxx, Womp can't imagine being with anyone else but Steve, and can't work out why people seem to have such a problem with it.
Double The Fist, Steve Foxx, he's spent his whole life struggling to accept that his homosexuality isn't a sign of weakness.
Double The Fist, Rod Foxx, he would totally come out as bisexual if he knew Steve wouldn't disown him for doing so.
Double The Fist, Tara, she's a vending machine, a token woman, so how does she tell Rodd she's really only interested in girls? (pre-The Final Battle.)
Double The Fist, Mephisto, being a gay vampire isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Electric Dreams, Edgar, not having a human body makes understanding human sexuality - and his own sexuality - quite complicated.

Jonathan Creek, Jonathan Creek, the one thing people find really strange about him is that he's asexual.

Mythology - Egyptian, Sobek/Heru-sa-Aset (Horus, son of Isis), Heru always intended to take Sobek as his consort when he became King. He didn't expect there'd be so much fuss about it.
Mythology - Egyptian, Djehuty (Thoth), Djehuty feels no need to explain how he can be both androgynous and male at the same time and wishes people would just stop asking.
Mythology - Egyptian, Amun, no one knows zyr true form, which is both liberating and uncomfortable, because it means using masks to represent zemself, and they are not always understood, even by the other gods.
Mythology - Egyptian, Nit (Neith), sie is two-thirds woman, one-third man, and no one really understands that at all.
Mythology - Egyptian, Wesir (Osiris), a queer version of Wesir's death and rebirth, and what it means to do that as a trans* god.
Mythology - Egyptian, Hapi, being a trans* god who is both male, and female, and neither, at the same time.
Mythology - Egyptian, Sobek, He is as queerly gendered as his mother, Nit, in his own strange way.
Mythology - Egyptian, Set (Seth), being a god of the outsiders, of the marginal places and people, and the mistrust and fear that come with it.

Robin Hood (any version), trans!Robin/Maid Marion, Part of what Marion likes about Robin is how well he understands her. Robin hasn't gotten around to telling her why he can relate to her so well, that when he said he came from a noble family once, he had actually been a girl.

The Hollowmen (TV series), Phillip/Warren, being queer, and a couple, does not affect the way in which they perform their official parliamentary duties.

The Marmalade Files (book), Kimberley (Ben Gordon), perhaps it's her own fault for the fact everyone assumes she's just a transvestite, and not a transwoman, given her decision not to transition. Still, she could do without all the misgendering.

RPF, Australian Comedy, Adam Hills, no one seems to mind that he might be gay, but coming out as bisexual seems to be completely unacceptable.
RPF, Australian Comedy, Josh Thomas, coming out is hard enough when you're not in the public eye. But when you're late to the game and becoming a popular comedian, is there ever a good time to come out, and even if you do, will anyone take you seriously?
RPF, Australian Comedy, Adam Hills/Ali McGregor, they've always had a kinky sex life, but Adam discovers that the more he does drag, the more he likes it, which only leads to questioning his own gender identity and the sort of father he's supposed to be to his child. Author's choice as to whether he comes to ID as genderqueer, genderfucked, MtF or something else entirely.
RPF, Australian Comedy, queer!Wil Anderson, being a little bent out of shape makes for interesting relationships.
RPF, Australian Comedy, Corinne Grant/Myf Warhurst, just because Myf's the only girlfriend Corinne's ever had, that doesn't make her a lesbian, does it?
RPF, Australian Comedy, Josh Thomas, realising he's asexual was easier than coming to terms with his bisexuality/homosexuality (author's choice). It's a pity everyone else thinks it's the other way around.
RPF, Australian Comedy, Josh Thomas, the difficulties in writing a sitcom about a fictional version of yourself and how it might affect the way people see you and your sexuality.

RPF, Australian Politics, Steve Fielding/Tony Abbott, Steve Fielding and Tony Abbott pull ridiculous media stunts to distract the media from the fact that they are having an affair which they believe would destroy both their careers if the wider public were to find out about it.
RPF, Australian Politics, Penny Wong, just because she's openly gay, everyone expects her to be some sort of raging advocate for gay rights. People are surprised to find this isn't always the case.
RPF, Australian Politics, Louise Pratt, just because her partner is FtM doesn't mean either of them are straight.

RPF, Electric Light Orchestra, Bev Bevan, Being gay in the 70s is hard enough. It's even harder when you're also transgendered and no one understands at all.
RPF, Electric Light Orchestra, queer!Bev Bevan, just because he's spent half his life happily married to a woman doesn't mean he's straight. Or cisgendered.
RPF, Electric Light Orchestra, Hugh McDowell, a devil-may-care attitude to his sexuality means no one really knows which box to put him in and he revels in the gossip and confusion. Problem is, Hugh doesn't really know either and it's beginning to get to him at last.
RPF, Electric Light Orchestra, FtM!Melvyn Gale, the sex he was given at birth shouldn't matter when all he wants to do is make music.
RPF, Electric Light Orchestra, Jeff Lynne/Roy Wood, Jeff never meant to fall in love with Roy, but he fell so hard he moved halfway across the world to get away from him, just so he wouldn't have to deal with the questions it kept asking about his sexuality.

RPF, No Doubt, FtM!Tony Kanal/Gwen Stefani, after they break up, Tony has to deal with Gwen being unable to let go of the girl she fell in love with and accept the man he's become.
RPF, No Doubt, Tom Dumont/Tony Kanal, Tom finds it surprising that Tony finds it so hard to accept he might be bisexual, even though they've been sleeping together for years.
RPF, No Doubt, queer!Adrian Young, being able to express his feminine side in public is one of the most important things to him, and he can't understand why some people think it's so wrong.

RPF, The Chaser, Andrew Hansen/Charles Firth, University-era - While Andrew might be content with his bisexuality, Charles is far from settled and struggles to accept his attraction to Andrew as more than just best friends while dealing with a girlfriend who hates him.
RPF, The Chaser, Chris Taylor, When you've got to the point of dating girls in public and making out with male friends behind closed doors, what place does coming out have in your life when all it will do is lead to disappointment?
RPF, The Chaser, Andrew Hansen, zie's never really felt comfortable as a boy or a girl, even when forced to choose. It didn't seem to matter; zie still got beaten up anyway. (high school AU, author's choice as to hir gender identity and which genitals zie was born with.)
RPF, The Chaser, Craig Reucassel, when he joked about being a woman trapped in a man's body, he was actually trying to come out.

RPF, The Traveling Wilburys, Jeff Lynne/George Harrison, Jeff hadn't counted on George being the one to finally bring him out of his very, very deep closet.

RPF, Wizzard, genderbending Roy Wood, ze's never wanted to be out and proud, but prancing about on stage in face paint, glitter and flamboyant and sometimes quite girly costumes is beginning to change hir mind.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Any Character, The Harpooners are totally fine with having an openly gay player… so they probably won’t freak out about having a trans* player too, right?

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Guert Affenlight, Guert resolves to be “better at being gay”. But where does a sixty-year-old man even start?

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Guert Affenlight, Guert uses his annual convocation speech to come out to the entire faculty and student body, and discovers that, for a liberal arts college, Westish really isn’t that liberal.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Guert Affenlight, Identifying as gay or bi shouldn’t affect Guert’s relationship with his daughter… should it?

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Guert Affenlight/Owen Dunne, Guert thinks of himself as straight, even though he’s in a relationship with a man. He and Owen discuss labels, and why identifying as gay or bi might be important.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Guert Affenlight/Owen Dunne, Owen realizes that Guert constantly characterizes their relationship from a heterocentric frame of reference and gently points out that neither of them needs to be “the girl”.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Guert Affenlight/Owen Dunne, Owen takes Guert to a gay bar.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Guert Affenlight/Owen Dunne, Guert takes Owen to his high school reunion, which means he has to figure out how to introduce Owen to his old friends.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Guert Affenlight/Owen Dunne, The media wants to use gay-college-president Guert as some kind of LGBT icon and Owen is all for it. Guert just wishes everything would get back to normal.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Owen Dunne, 14-year-old Owen knows he’s gay but is terrified of anyone else finding out, especially the guys on his high school baseball team. Then he finds a book called The Sperm-Squeezers.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Owen Dunne, Openly-gay Owen gets drafted by a major league baseball team. He has no intention of actually signing up until the hate mail starts.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Owen Dunne, Coach Cox might not have a problem with Owen being gay, but some of the players who have to shower and share a motel bed with him disagree… until an opposing team starts hassling Owen for the same reason.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Henry Skrimshander, During one of Owen’s long, rambling, pot-fed musings on love and sexuality, Henry realizes that the term “asexual” fits him pretty much to a T.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Henry Skrimshander, Now a pro baseball player, Henry comes out to his teammates as asexual.

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Henry Skrimshander, Henry loves Mike and Pella and wants to have a relationship with them both. He just doesn’t really want to have sex with them. (Henry is asexual.)

The Art of Fielding – Chad Harbach, Henry Skrimshander, Henry comes out to his parents as gay/bi/asexual/trans* and has to explain that, no, he did not somehow “catch” it from his gay roommate.

any fandom, male character, he sort of expected that coming out as bi would be hard and that some people would react badly. What he doesn’t understand is why the girl he’d been dating and falling for is suddenly unwilling to see him and convinced he’d been leading her on (and she’s not even homophobic or anything!).

War and Peace, Anatole Kuragin (het and slash parings0, the only terms Anatole's society has for describing him are "promiscuous" when he's with women and "sodomite" when he's with men. So how's a bisexual homoromantic boy to deal in a world where those terms don't exist and won't for another ~couple hundred years?

War and Peace, Dolokhov/Anatole, "Gay" doesn't exist yet and liking someone the same gender is a sexual perversion. But Dolokhov can't deny the fact that he just doesn't like women but IS desperately in love with Anatole. As for Anatole...he's bi and completely unwilling/psychologically unable to deal with the fact that he returns his friend's feelings He'd rather focus on the fact that he likes women (too). Commence angst and the biggest mistake of Anatole's life (trying to run away with Natasha).

War and Peace, Nikolai Rostov (Nikolai/Sonya, Nikolai/Dolokhov, Nikolai/Alexander I, etc), Nikolai's passionate "platonic" infatuations/romantic friendships with other men never cross the line of "decency" but he can't help but notice that his feelings for men are so much stronger than for Sonya and that when he does have flashes of desire for her it's when she does something masculine (like the fake mustache she wore in that one scene in canon).

Firefly, Jayne/Simon, There was no way this "thing" between them could work ... was there?

Warehouse 13, Steve Jinks, How out of the closet can you be when you work for the ATF? Steve hadn't found an answer to that question, yet, even though he needed one, right now - or the lover he'd kept a secret for so long would walk out of his life.

Firefly, Jayne/Simon, So he’d bought Simon as a slave to get him out of trouble – both of them, actually. Just until the Captain came back and played the hero. There was no reason for Simon to eye him as warily as he did, as if Jayne would take advantage in front of all these gorram slave traders … even though he wanted to; and that bothered him, ‘cause a man had never interested him that much before. And where was the harm in a bit of fun?

Whitechapel, Joseph Chandler, Chandler is ace and while he appreciates Miles is trying he does wish he’d stop.
CSI Miami, Tim Speedle, All the other CSIs are normally fighting to get porn-watching duty so people are starting to wonder why Speed always avoids watching any porn they find (writer’s choice as to why).

Hawaii Five-0 (2010 series), Danny Williams, just because he was married to a woman doesn't mean he's straight. Tell the story of Danny's decision to come out.

Hawaii Five-0, any character, Hawaii is the new battleground in the fight for gay marriage, how does this affect character's life?

Hawaii Five-0, Any Character, just because it's legal to marry one's same sex partner/lover doesn't mean one would automatically want to.

Hawaii Five-0, Chin, Chin's been involved for a few years now in a local LGBT* group (could be at UH, a high school, a community group, perhaps), but after he gets married to Malia, he's surprised by an antagonistic encounter within the group, when his bisexuality is questioned.

Hawaii Five-0, Danny Williams, newly single and moved across the country, he finds the local LGBT culture is completely different from back home.

Hawaii Five-0, Danny, Chin, and Kono, Danny is head-over-heels in love with Steve, but Steve isn't attracted to men. Danny tries to keep a lid on his crush, but Chin and/or Kono find out and are supportive.

Hawaii Five-0, Danny, Danny had a favorite gay bar back in New Jersey, but he's having a hard time finding one in Honolulu.

Hawaii Five-0,Danny, he hates labels, he hates that there need to be specific words for the love he feels to people, but because he's with a man, he needs to "explain" himself.

Hawaii Five-0, Danny, One of Danny's sisters accidentally outs him to the team.

Hawaii Five-0, Danny, Steve, It's not that he was afraid that Steve was going to be a dick about it, but...okay, maybe he was a little bit afraid. In Danny's defense, coming out to co-workers has never gone well for him.

Hawaii Five-0, Danny, the fact that he's bi/pan doesn't mean the gender of who he's with doesn't make a difference to him.

Hawaii Five-0, Grace, Grace used to have a crush on Steve, but as she gets older she starts crushing hard on Kono. Suddenly those surf lessons are a source of shame and confusion.
Hawaii Five-0, Grace, Gracie is femme, that doesn't make her any less of dyke.
Hawaii Five-0, Jenna, Jenna is kind of annoyed that she needs to explain that the fact that she's dating a guy, doesn't make her straight.
Hawaii Five-0, Jenna, the fact that she's trans doesn't automatically make her particularly feminine.

Hawaii Five-0, Kono, It's not that telling the team she's queer scares her. It's just that she's held it inside for so long that she doesn't know how to let it out.

Hawaii Five-0, Kono, Kono has always said that she has no interest in getting married, but that was when her idea of marriage was a husband, a baby, and a mortgage. Now she's starting to see that marriage doesn't have to mean any of those things.

Hawaii Five-0, Kono, she was born female and she's okay with the female pronouns... most of the time. (genderqueer!Kono)

Hawaii Five-0, Kono, The first person she ever trusted enough to come out to was Chin.

Hawaii Five-0, Mary Ann McGarrett, she sleeps with both men and women, but she never felt the label 'bisexual' suited her.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, all he knew growing up was that you could be gay or straight. It takes years before he understands that he's bi.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, coming out to his father. (Can be past canon or AU.)

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, DADT doesn't exist anymore, but the culture in the police isn't so different from the Navy.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, he's never said, "I'm gay," out loud.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, his team knows he's gay and that makes him feel a little safer.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, Steve can count the number of people he's come out to on one hand.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, what's it like to go to the Army-Navy Academy when you only just realised you're gay?

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett, years of living with DADT has left its marks.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, Danny never thought much about being an activist for anything, but changes his mind after one too many experiences when he, Steve and Grace are a target for prejudice.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, Steve has started a relationship with Danny but he’s feeling pressure to keep it in the closet, because being a Navy SEAL, cop, and head of Five-0 is a triple whammy.
Hawaii Five-0, Steve McGarrett/Danny Williams, they're both masculine guys with demanding jobs and preset expectations of how relationships work. When they get together, it's an adjustment.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Catherine, One or both of them is gay/bi. They celebrate the repeal of DADT together.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Catherine, She's the only person who knows that he likes men too.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Chin, Danny, Kono, The team realizes that an investigation into a hate crime is deeply affecting one of their ranks, and they each offer their support in different ways.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Five reactions that Steve wasn't expecting when he comes out to the important people in his life.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Mary, When they were teenagers, Mary found gay porn in Steve's room. She put it back and never told him.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve, Steve's mom was the only person who knew that he was gay. After she died, Steve didn't feel safe enough to tell anyone for a long time.

Hawaii Five-0, Steve/Danny and Grace, the logistics of setting Steve up as a legal guardian is very frustrating, seeing as Steve is basically a stranger in the eyes of the law.

Hawaii Five-0: Danny Williams. He doesn't understand how people can just find others attractive - there has to be a personal connection first, for him, anyway. But trying to explain that to Steve, Chin, and Kono, who try to set him up all the time, proves more than a little difficult. (demisexual!Danny, possibly ending with Danny/anyone on the team or OT4)

Hawaii Five-0: Grace Williams. Grace is heading to college when she decides to tell her family (Rachel and Stan, Danny and the Five-0 team, of course) that she likes girls, not boys.

Hawaii Five-O, Jenna Kaye, seeking/grieving her fiancee (either AU in which she survives, or not)

Hawaii Five-O, Kono Kalakaua, Melia, the reason Kono has trouble with Malia and Chin's relationship is that she's always had a huge crush on Malia

Hawaii Five-O, Kono Kalakaua, transitioning in the place you grew up, where everyone knows who you are

Hawaii Five-O, Steve McGarrett, Chin Ho Kelly, Chin mentoring a young Steve around his sexuality (bisexual, queer, gay, wherever you want to go with each character)

Hawaii Five-O, Steve McGarrett, Kono Kalakaua, why does everyone assume that because they're bisexual and friends, they'll inevitably sleep together?

DC Comics pre reboot, Tim Drake, for a boy who has spent his whole life holding up a mirror and trying to be what he thinks others want him to be, making the decision to come out for himself is a process.

DC Comics pre reboot, Jason Todd, Winick dropped some context clues about Jason's past and how it might have included turning tricks to help take care of his mother. How he deals with this alongside identifying and accepting his own bisexuality.

Marvel Comics, Yelena Belova, asexuality and the expectations that come along with holding the mantle of the Black Widow.

Marvel Comics, Kate Bishop, it hits her several months too late smack dab over the head that she had fallen quietly, deeply in love with Cassie a long time ago.

Marvel Comics, Carol Danvers/Jessica Drew, when it all comes down to it, being in love with Jessica feels like it should be complicated but in the end, it just feels like a natural progression of what they are to each other.

Marvel Comics, Natasha Romanova, the Black Widow has fallen for her share of women over the years. She's amused by how this always seems to come across as a surprise to people.

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, Florence Craye (and any others), Florence was no stranger to the activities of the Bloomsbury scene, but never considered her preferences. After yet another failed engagement, someone calls her on her constant ‘molding’ of young men. Was she really trying to make them into proper and submissive wives? Would she prefer a woman to share her life? How?

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, Honoria Glossop (and any others), Happily engaged to handsome, intelligent Blaine, she wakes nightly from dreams about sexual encounters with women. What’s a sporty bisexual virgin to do?

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, Rosie M Banks/Aunt Dahlia, The real reason the famous lady novelist gave up her French chef, Anatole, and never wrote a serial for Milady’s Boudoir.

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, Stilton Cheesewright, Bertie Wooster, Jeeves, Florence Craye. Stilton is, as many have pointed out, a ‘splendid physical specimen.’ Bertie certainly agrees. They were friends at school together before Florence stirred up jealousy between them. While on his errand for Lord Worplesdon, Jeeves sees them in delicto flagrante near the burned ruins of ‘Wee Nooke.’ Scales fall from various eyes.

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, Bertie, Jeeves, Aunt Dahlia, While visiting at Brinkley Court, Jeeves and Bertie are ‘caught in the act’ by Aunt Dahlia who takes each of them aside and lectures them about the dangers of their forbidden love. They convince her that the situation was completely innocent (it was), but the lecture casts a new light on their home life.

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, Jeeves, Bertie, Bingo Little, Rosie Banks, Established relationships. Bertie grows suspicious when Bingo keeps insisting that Jeeves accompany him on all their visits. It’s hard enough being a chap in love with another chap that dare not speak its whatsit, especially when there might be whatisting with Bingo, but what’s a fellow to do when famous novelist Rosie M Banks threatens to have Jeeves put away as an invert to save her marriage?

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, Bertie, Jeeves. Jeeves hardens himself to the fact that Bertie only has casual sexual relationships—the ‘Bohemian revels’ that bring him to Paris. Bertie, meanwhile, is deeply in love with Jeeves but hesitant to endanger him by beginning an illegal sexual liaison.

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, Bertie, Jeeves. Innocent Bertie/Worldly Jeeves. Bertie wears a flambouyant piece of clothing during a visit to Antibes and is, rather forcibly, propositioned by an older chap wearing a yellow velvet morning suit. Jeeves comes to his rescue and finally explains how certain individuals might view his ‘fruitier’ articles of clothing.

Jeeves and Wooster/Jeeves PG Wodehouse, (pick some) Florence Craye, Gwladys Pendlebury (the artist), Daphne Dolores Morehead, Daphne Dalgleish, Angela Travers, Stiffy Bing, Madeline Bassett, Honoria Glossop, Cora Bellinger, Emerald Stoker, Pauline Stoker, Daphne Braithwaite. The Bechdel Meeting: the Wodehouse ladies gather together, ostensibly to bemoan their heartbreaks by various Drones, but instead discuss their real sexual preferences.

Hawaii Five-0, Kono and Danny, Kono has always had something of a crush on Steve, but the thing with Cath is new and a little confusing. Danny welcomes her to the club.

Hawaii Five-0, Grace, Grace's family (blood-related and chosen alike) has never been anything but accepting and loving and supportive to a fault, but she's still terrified to come out as gay to them.

North & South, John/Margaret, John has been dressing, acting, and presenting himself as a man since his father died. He's worried that Margaret will leave and expose him when she finds out, but she's much more understanding than he could have hoped for her to be.

RPF, The Hobbit, Richard Armitage/any, dating a castmate is always difficult, but it's even harder when you have to find a way to explain (without scaring them off) that no, you don't want to kiss or have sex with them, you just want to hold their hand a lot.

RPF, The Hobbit, Richard Armitage (/+any, none), Richard's never had the slightest inclination to come out to anyone in his life - until he's on the set of The Hobbit and starts to feel utterly at ease with all of his lovely castmates. Still, coming out at 40ish can be tricky.

Teen Wolf, Derek/+any, he uses sex as a way of connecting with other people, but the act isn't something he really enjoys, and he's never actually been sexually attracted to any of the people he's slept with. Cue his current partner noticing something's not completely right and helping him figure out that there are other ways to foster relationships.

Teen Wolf, Stiles (/+any, none), in the privacy of his own head Stiles is totally comfortable with being bisexual, but he still struggles with the reality. Luckily for him, his friends are nothing but supportive (in their own, unique ways).

Teen Wolf, Erica, she doesn't like labels, and her only criterion for bed partners is "enthusiastically consenting." She will (probably literally) rip your throat out if you try to stick her in a box.

Teen Wolf, Erica/Lydia, after Jackson leaves, Lydia sometimes dresses in the clothes he'd left behind at her house. After a while it's less about how she feels for him and more about how she feels while wearing men's clothing. She keeps it to herself, but after she starts dating Erica, it's hard to keep her from finding out.

The Hobbit, any, while on the road to Erebor, one of the characters is magically transformed into a woman. Feeling more comfortable in their skin than they ever have before, they decline Gandalf's offer to change them back once he figures out how it happened.

Jane Austen, Lizzie Bennett & Charlotte Lucas, It was a truth universally known that young women of no fortune must be in want of a husband, even if their hearts and minds belonged to each other.

Jane Austen, Jane Bennett, Lizzie Bennett, Miss Bingley. Miss Bingley has travelled among people of ‘the ton’ and knows who and what she is. She has more than enough money to support a wife, but how can she find a companion when her choices are scooped up by her brother and Mr. Darcy? Imagine her surprise when Charles and Jane and D'Arcy and Lizzie confess to their own identity troubles.

Jane Austen, Miss Crawford, Fanny Price. Mary Crawford could joke about rears and vices until the cows came home, but Fanny would never understand some things until she was shown.

Jane Austen, Charlotte Lucas and Miss DeBourgh. It was a sad necessity to leave Lizzie Bennett’s loving embrace behind, especially for marriage to poor Mr. Collins. Imagine Charlotte’s surprise on finding a kindred soul in the sickly Anne DeBourgh.

DC Comics, Tim Drake, he's always been amused by the local tabloid's attempts to link him to women around Gotham, but when they get a shot of him and his boyfriend stealing a kiss outside a restaurant, suddenly it isn't funny anymore.

DC Comics, Tim Drake, trying to convince his partner that being asexual doesn't mean he's aromantic, made harder by the fact that he isn't that demonstrative in the first place.

DC Comics, Jason Todd, he's had to figure out so much about himself since the Lazarus Pit that he almost takes figuring out he's queer in stride. He doesn't expect it to be such a big deal when it comes out.

Any fandom, any character, they've known and been comfortable with their identity for years, so why is the idea of coming out so terrifying?

Homestuck, Dave Strider, hearing your best friend say "I'm not a homosexual" in the same tone of voice he'd use to say "I don't have rabies" wears on a guy. Even if he doesn't know he's bashing you, it still hurts.

Homestuck, Karkat Vantas, the humans' obsession with sexuality is weird. Weirder still is how Karkat, after learning a bunch of the human terms for different kinds of sexuality, finally finds one that fits him. [Karkat's identity up to the author.]

Homestuck, Karkat Vantas, one of the reasons Karkat is so glad that he's no longer on Alternia is because he didn't want to fill a pail with anyone. Now he doesn't have to.

Homestuck, Rose Lalonde/Kanaya Maryam, Rose is comfortable with being a lesbian and she loves Kanaya, but when they're finally ready to have sex, she has no idea how she feels about Kanaya's anatomy.

Homestuck, Jade Harley, her friends think she's pansexual and poly because she was raised alone, outside of society. It's just how Jade is, though.

Homestuck, Eridan Ampora, he says he's bi because that's what's expected of him, but he's really not interested in filling a concupiscent quadrant with a woman.

Homestuck, Dirk Strider, it's hard being the last guy on Earth. It's harder being the last *gay* guy on Earth.

Any fandom, any character, the five worst ways to come out

Any fandom, any character, now that same-sex marriage is legal... she still doesn't want to get married, thank you very much. (pronoun used for clarity, feel free to switch it up)

Ender's Game (& related books), any character/OC, Discovering one's sexuality in Battle School is about as hard as you'd think it would be, but even harder when you're not straight

Warehouse 13, H.G. Wells / or & Myka Bering, Helena really thought things would be better by now. Myka shows her some of the progress that's been made since Helena's time.

Warehouse 13, Steve Jinks, being able to tell when people are lying can make figuring out your sexual orientation... well, interesting.

Warehouse 13, Steve Jinks, someone they're questioning while on an artifact hunt is playing the pronoun game.

(Yes, that Ender's Game one came about explicitly as a "screw you" to Orson Scott Card.)
